Thursday 17 December 2009

A frosty morning so the roads were slippery again. The slippery start and a general lack of energy resulted in a slow time to Lode Mill of 44'05".

A Grey Heron seen at the start of Quy Waters, several Blackbirds, Redwings and Fieldfares along the railway line and a Green Woodpecker at the end of the bridleway.

The usual run to Lode Mill this morning. The weather was cool and windy. It was again rather muddy underfoot due to overnight rain. Time achieved was 39'30".

A large flock of over 100 Rooks and Jackdaws in Station Road. A few Fieldfares and Redwings along the old railway line, also about 5 Red-Legged Partridges.

Tuesday 8 December 2009

An early start today - 6.18. Hence it was too dark to run the usual route. However I managed to find a road route of 4.3 miles. A very good time, thanks to no mud and potholes - 33'40".

As it was still dark there was no wildlife to be seen.

Sunday 6 December 2009

A longer run today with Joanna - along Low Fen Droveway towards Horningsea and Fen Ditton. Apart from a short stretch this was all on road or farm track so generally not too muddy. However many puddles after the heavy rain on Saturday evening. A gentle run over 11.8km (7.3 miles). A time of 83 minutes made for a pleasant comfortable run.

2 Buzzards seen along the droveway as well as a small flock of about 12 Goldfiches and a larger flock of about 100 Fieldfares.

Mallards, and Mute Swan family (2 adults and 3 young) along the river plus several Moorhens (6 together at the back entrance to Anglesey Abbey).

Blackbirds, a Robin, Kestrel and Green Woodpecker seen along the old railway track.
