Wednesday 28 November 2012

A loop around Bottisham again this morning.  A dark start and very cold.  Pretty much the same time a last week at 45:52.

Sunday 25 November 2012

Due to the muddy conditions I tried a new longer tarmac run today through Bottisham and Swaffham Bulbeck coming back along the cycle path to Lode and then back into Bottisham.

A bit of a head wind coming back but finished the 8.8 mile course in a time of 1.17:35.

Saturday 24 November 2012

A wet and muddy Cambridge parkrun this morning.  Given the muddy conditions I achieved a reasonable time of 22:29.

Thursday 22 November

I ran the 5.4 mile Bottisham Loop again this morning in a reasonable time of 45:58.

Sunday 18 November 2012

Today was my third run in the St Neots Riverside Half Marathon.  The weather was dry and bright and fairly cool - good running weather.  We almost missed the start as I thought it started at 10.30 not 10.

At the start I joined the pack just ahead of the 1:45 pacers and managed to stay ahead of them throught the race.  I set a good steady pace and manged to stay reasonably comfortable throughout the run.  I crossed the finish line just as the clock reached 1:40 and recorded a new PB chip time of 1:39:43.

Friday 16 November 2012

Friday 16 November 2012

A road-based run this morning through Bottisham, including a loop of Beechwood Avenue.  Just over 5 miles in 44'24".  The weather was dry and not too cold.

Wednesday 14 November 2012

Wednesday 14 November 2012

9k run to Bottisham and Lode this morning.  The weather was dry and fairly warm.  The railway track and bridleway are still very muddy.  The mud slowed by down for the final mile and a half, overall time was 46'44".

Several House Sparrows heard in Albert Road this morning.  A Great Spotted Woodpecker was seen flying over in Lode.  5 Moorhens were at Lode Mill and a few Long-Tailed Tits were in the bushes just after the mill.

Monday 12 November 2012

Sunday 11 November 2012

Had a run this morning to Fen Ditton and Horningsea.  I took the raod route to Fen Ditton to avoid the inevitible mud along the droveway.  It was still very muddy along the stretch past Allicky Farm.  This route is slightly shorter than the normal route at 7.5 miles.  A reasonable time of 1 hour 3'56".

A Great Spotted Woodpecker flew across the road just after Horningsea.

Saturday 10 November 2012

A very wet and muddy Cambridge parkrun this morning.  The rain had stopped by the time the race started but there were large puddles and lots of mud all around the course.  As a result a slow time of 22'57.

Thursday 8 November 2012

Thursday 8 November 2012

Bottisham and Lode 9k route again today.  Weather was quite a bit warmer today.  A reasonable time of 46'25".

A Jay was seen in the Maize field along the railway track after Lode Mill and 2 more Jays were seen just before the gate.

Tuesday 6 November 2012

This morning I ran along Colliers Lane to Anglesey Abbey and back through Bottisham, going to the end of the village rather than taking Bell Road.  The weather was cold and frosty.

There were 3 Hares in the field at the start of the road from Lode to Bottisham and a Great-Spotted Woodpecker flew onto a telegraph pole at the farmhouse on the left hand side of the road opposite the small spinney.

Sunday 4 November 2012

Histon & Impington Bonfire Burn 10k.  Unfortunately the race was marred by heavy rain and a 15 minute delay at the start.  I was hopeful of a new PB but this was scuppered by being thoroughly drenched with soggy shoes and socks, together with slippery/muddy conditions along the Mere Way off-road section.  Despite teh conditions I achieved a respectable (gun time - no chip time available) time of 45'19".

Friday 2 November 2012

The usual run to Bottisham and Lode.  9k in a slow time of 48'32".

A Buzzard was perched on telegraph wires in Albert Road and surprisingly didn't fly away as I ran past.  A Kestrel was seen near Bottisham.  A Great-Spotted Woodpecker flew across the road to Lode.  A Sparrowhawk was seen darting away along the old railway track, which remains very muddy.

Tuesday 30 October 2012

A slight variation on the Bottisham and Lode run which involved setting out through Quy and past the church to Newmarket Road.  Rather than 9k this run was just over 10k.  A reasonable time of 52'42".  With the end of BST it was lighter than previous mornings.  I managed to trip over the gate along the railway track this morning, landing on my face in the mud.  Fortunately the ground was quite soft.  A cut knee and hand were my only injuries.

A lot of birds seen in Lode this morning.  Near the old hall (awaiting renovation into houses) their was a Chaffinch, Long-Tailed Tit and a few House Sparrows.  4 Swallows were perched on wires in Mill Road (my latest ever Swallow sighting).  Just past Lode Mill 2 Muntjacs ran from the field into the trees.

Sunday 28 October 2012

A gentle 11.5 mile run with Joanna to Swaffham Prior.  The weather was dry but fairly cold.

2 Kestrels seen along the route.  Along Bottisham Lode there were 3 Mute Swans and a Moorhen.

Friday 26 October 2012

Friday 26 October 2012

A chilly and windy morning run to Bottisham and Lode.  It was dark at the start.  The clocks go back this weekend, so at least the mornings will be lighter for the next few weeks.  Despite the railway track being churned up the ground was generally quite dry.

A few Blackbirds heard and seen, and 2 Wrens heard at Quy Hall otherwise not much else.

Thursday 25 October 2012

Tuesday 23 October 2012

Home early from work today so I managed to get an 11.5 mile run in before it got dark.  I ran to Bottisham, Swaffham Bulbeck, Swaffham Prior and back through White Fen to Lode.  Weather was slightly foggy and the ground was wet and muddy in places, especially the road out of Swaffham Prior and the track down to Swaffham Bulbeck Lode/White Fen.  The railway track had also been churned up by farm vehicles.

A lovely Barn Owl was seen hunting over the fen at Swaffham Prior.  A Mute Swan and 5 Moorhens were seen along Bottisham Lode.  A Kestrel was hovering in the field opposite the bridge in Lode.

Sunday 21 October 2012

An afternoon run along the longer 7 mile Bottisham and Lode route today.

Saturday 20 October 2012

A good run at Cambridge parkrun this morning.  Decent the puddles and muddy patches underfoot after the previous day/night's ran.  A good time of 21'45".

Tuesday 16 October 2012

Today I ran the shorter 9k route to Bottisham and Lode.  Weather was fairly foggy so not much to see.  A decent time of 45'22"

Sunday 14 October 2012

A 7 mile run to the far end of Bottisham and Lode today.

Saturday 13 October 2012

A decent run at Cambridge parkrun today, in a time of 21'59".

Thursday 11 October 2012

Thursday 11 October 2012

The same route to Bottisham and Lode again this morning. Weather was cool and dry. Still just as muddy at the end of the bridleway. Time today was a bit quicker than Tuesday at 45'23", despite having to wait quite a while to cross the road at Lode.

Nothing of any interest seen this morning.

Tuesday 9 October 2012

A run to Bottisham and Lode this morning.  Weather was cold and foggy.  Quite muddy at the end of the bridleway. Time today was 45'45".

Blackbirds heard and a Green Woodpecker heard then seen along the bridleway.

Saturday 6 October 2012

Bradford parkrun this morning.  My fourth different event this year.  Weather was cool and dry.  The course was on good wide tarmacced paths, which were clean except for some goose poop in places.

The course was 3 and a bit laps of just under a mile each.  There were no KM markers so I aimed for 7 minutes per lap.  OK on the first lap but slowed down a bit on the next 2, due to the "Teeny Tiny Hill" at the end of each lap.  Finish time of exactly 23 minutes.

Wednesday 3 October 2012

Wednesday 3 October 2012

A slow run to Bottisham and Lode this morning.  At 47:31 this was 5 minutes down on my PB.  Weather was cool and dry.

A Swallow flew across the Newmarket Road. A Peacock was on the grass verge opposite Lode Social Club.  2 Jays were seen along the bridleway.

Sunday 30 September 2012

A run from Beckington (Somerset) across the river Frome to Orchardleigh Golf Course then back past the lake to Oldford before going up the hill along Frome Road and back down into Beckington.  At Orchardleigh Church at the far end of the lake the intention was to run along the edge of the lake, but we couldn't find where the footpath was so ended up going back across the golf course for a bit.  A total distance of about 10k.

At the start of the golf course a Roe Deer was seen,  A couple of Jays seen later on.

Saturday 29 September 2012

A visit to Southwick Country parkrun this morning, as we're in Bath for the weekend.  Weather was cool and dry.

A nice small event with just 75 runners.  A pleasant 2 and 2/3 laps course with some uphill sections.  I managed to finish in 20th place with a time of 21:59.

Thursday 27 September 2012

Thursday 27 September 2012

A 9km run to Bottisham and Lode again this morning.  Weather was cool with a very slight drizzle from Lode Mill.  Not so quick today at 44'20".

A Green Woodpecker flying across the road in Bottisham was the only bird worthy of note.

Tuesday 25 September 2012

Tuesday 25 September 2012

A good run this morning to Bottisham and Lode Mill.  Weather was cool and a little windy.  A new PB for this route of 42'41", almost 2 minutes quicker than previous best from earlier this month.

A large flock of House Martin over Mill Road in Lode and a Grey Wagtail at the Mill.  A Buzzard drifted slowly low over Station Road, Quy pursued as ever by a group of corvids.

Monday 24 September 2012

Sunday 23 September 2012 - Bourn to Run 10k

My second time at this event.  Weather was dry and cool (about 11 degrees), with a light breeze.  The course started with a quick downhill "dash" through the village (4 minutes for 1st 1km), followed by a gradual climb up to the 6km mark.  Between 3 and 4km was the steepest part.  A good time of around 22:15 at the halfway mark. From 7km the course was downhill.

I managed to cross the finish line with a final sprint just before the clock ticked to 45:00 minutes and got a chip time of 44:53.  This is over 2 minutes better than last year's Bourn to Run and not far off my 10k PB.

A large flock of House Martins were flying around the grounds of Bourn Hall at the start.  A couple of Swallows seen near the airfield.

Friday 21 September 2012

Friday 21 September 2012

A good run along the 5 mile route to Lode and back along the old railway line.  A PB of 39'42" thanks to a quick final 2 miles.  The weather was dry and warmer than it was on Wednesday.

Only 2 House Martins in the village this morning (in Station Road).  It looks like they have finally left for the year.  Nothing else of interest seen this morning either.

Wednesday 19 September 2012

A cold morning today (around 6 degrees).  I ran the Lode 10k route.  The grass along Quy Water was a bit dewy, but fortunately the grass between the fields after Lodestar had been cut (although already growing back).  A good time of 50'33".

2 Jays were seen flying from Quy Water towards the old railway line.  A Heron was on Bottisham Lode and a group of Roe Deer were seen in the field towards White Fen.  A Buzzard was seen sitting on top of a telegraph pole along the track to the Lodestar fields.

Sunday 16 September 2012

Another 17km run to Clayhithe and Baits Bite Lock with Joanna this morning.  Today we took the footpath across the fields to Clayhithe as the ground has now been compacted enough.

A Kingfisher was seen flying from across the fields on the west side of the river and then down the river towards the lock.  2 Cormorants seen flying along the river too.

Saturday 15 September 2012

Another good parkrun today.  I pushed quite hard but even so was still a bit short of my best, with a time of 21'33".

Friday 14 September 2012

A short run to Lode along Quy Water.  Grass is still long but fortunately was dry today.

A Great-Spotted Woodpecker was seen at the top of a wooden telegraph pole in Station Road, Quy.

Wednesday 12 September 2012

A 9km run this morning to Bottisham and Lode.  A new PB for this route of 44'32".

Sunday 9 September 2012

A very hot day for the Grunty Fen Half Marathon.

The course from Witchford Village College started with a 5 mile loop followed by a long 8 mile loop.  I set a good time for the first 5 miles in under 40 minutes, but then the heat took its toll and I had little energy left for the final loop.  I finished in a time of 1 hour 49'17".

Saturday 8 September 2012

No parkrun today as half marathon tomorrow.  A very short 3km run round Quy with my daughter this morning.  Weather was very warm.

Wednesday 5 September 2012

My second run to Lode and back along the old railway line.  This is a good alternative to the long grass along Quy Water.  A slower time today of 42'38".

A Grey Wagtail was sitting on a rock in the pool at Lode Mill.

Sunday 2 September 2012

A long run today in preparation for next weeks half marathon.  A 19km run through Bottisham, Swaffham Bulbeck, Swaffham Prior and White Fen.

2 Buzzards seen as I left Swaffham Prior.

Saturday 1 September 2012

A very good parkrun this morning.  A new PB of 21'17".

Thursday 20 September 2012

Thursday 30 August 2012

A shorter run this morning to Lode and back along the old railway line.  The railway line at the Lode end is very muddy as is the end of the bridleway where it meets Station Road, Quy.

In the field just after Anglesey Abbey 7 Grey Squirrels ran out of the stubble where they had been feeding into the safety of the trees.

Wednesday 29 August 2012

Another run to Horningsea this morning.

3 individual Roe Deer seen in different places around the route.

Monday 27 August 2012

A bank holiday run with Joanna to Clayhithe and Baits Bite Lock on the River Cam.  A distance of 17km.  From Horningsea we ran along the road to Clayhithe as the field (where the footpath goes) was recently ploughed.

Moorhens and Cormorants seen along the river.

Saturday 25 August 2012

A quicker parkrun today in a time of 22'08", but still quite a bit off my best.

A Hobby and a Tern flew over whilst I was waiting at the start.

Friday 24 August 2012

A 9km run this morning to Bottisham and Lode in a time of 48'30".

Wednesday 22 August 2012

An 8 mile run to Horningsea this morning.  A PB time of 1 hour 03'29" about a minute and a half quicker than my previous best.  Not sure why the run was quick, but I seemed to have plenty of energy today.

A Buzzard was seen along the route and a Green Woodpecker.

Monday 20 August 2012

An extended version of the Lode 10 route this morning at about 11.6km.  A ggod time of around 53 minutes.

Saturday 18 August 2012

My 50th parkrun this morning.  The run was slow though, in a time of 22'48".

Tuesday 11 September 2012

Sunday 12 August 2012

Another 10.5 mile run to Swaffham Bulbeck.  No time for today due to stopwatch failure.

Along Swaffham Bulbeck Lode a Hobby flew over, heading south,  possibly migrating buy may just have been part of its daily hunting routine.

Saturday 11 August 2012

No parkrun today as I had to take my daughter to a dressage event, but I got up early for a run to Bottisham and Lode.

Wednesday 8 August 2012

The grass along the Lode 10k route was still as long and dewy as last time.  The strech between the 2 barley after after Lodestar has quite a few stinging nettles at the start.  An average time today of 52'13".

Sunday 5 August 2012

In preparation for next month's Half Marathon I did a longer run today.  I ran through Bottisham, Swaffham Bulbeck and White Fen - 10.5 miles.  A reasonable time of 1 hour 33'.

Saturday 4 August 2012

I still have a painful knee, and with the bad weather this week no midweek run.  Today's parkrun was another slow affair at 22'48".

Sunday 29 July 2012

Today I entered the Spartan Race at Bassingbourn Barracks.  The run was about 5km but it took almost 2 hours to get through all of the obstacles, as there were long queues.  The 200m dark tunnel itself took almost half an hour.

Saturday 28 July 2012

A better parkrun this week, in a time of 22'07".  I still can't quite manage to beak 21 minutes though.

Wednesday 25 July 2012

Lode 10k route.  Grass was very dewy and along Quy Water and after Lodestar was very long.  Will try to avoid this route for a while.

Sunday 22 July 2012

A run with Joanna this morning to Horningsea.

Saturday 21 July 2012

A dissappointing time for parkrun this morning at 22'48".

Wednesday 18 July 2012

Due to continued wet weather a road-based run to Bottisham and Lode Mill, coming back along along the old railway track.  Still muddy at end of bridleway.

An amazing sight this morning of 2 Red Kites by the recreation in Quy.

Friday 31 August 2012

Glen Feochan

The second run I did at Kilmore near Oban was through Glen Feochan.  The run headed East out of Kilmore along a flat quiet country road, which eventually started to climb a hill.  After about 5k the road crossed a stream and hidden away along a short path through the trees there was a lovely waterfall with a small pool.

In a field along the glen a family of Oystercatchers were calling noisily.

Loch Nell, Kilmore Scotland

A 10k run along the side of Loch Nell at Kilmore near Oban in Scotland.  Lovely scenery, unfortunately it was raining throughout the run so we got rather wet.  After a short distance along the main road from Oban the route passed through the village of Kilmore and headed along the southern shore of Loch Nell before climbing a windy road above the western side of the Loch.

A Common Sandpiper and Little Grebe were seen on the Loch and at the point at which we turned back a Buzzard flew off from its perch on a telegraph pole.

Thursday 23 August 2012

Monday 2 July 2012

Lode 10k route again.

Saturday 30 June 2012

A good parkrun this morning.  Just 2 seconds off my PB and my best time this year of 21'32".  Maybe a new PB could be possible!

Wednesday 27 June 2012

The usual Lode 10k route today.  Grass between the fields after Lodestar is getting rather long.

Saturday 23 June 2012

Parkrun this morning.  Exactly the same time as last week at 22'12".

Wednesday 20 June 2012

A run to Lode this morning coming back through Quy Fen and past Allicky Farm.  A distance of just under 8 miles.

Tuesday 19 June 2012

Monday 18 June 2012

An evening run after work along the Lode 10k route.  Weather was dry and warm.  The grass was dry but there were big puddles or mud in places.  Stopwatch battery packed up - so no time available.

A few Swifts over Lode.  A couple of Skylarks were seen at the Barley fields.  A Green Woodpecker was on the grass along the track to Quy Fen.

A Spotted Flycatcher was seen in Station Road.  A juvenile Goldfinch was calling to its parents from a TV aerial in Vicarage Meadow.

Monday 18 June 2012

Saturday 16 June 2012

A couple of Chiffchaffs heard and at least 3 Blackcaps.

Friday 15 June 2012

Wednesday 13 June 2012

A 9.5 mile run this morning to Lode, White Fen Drove, Quy Fen and Allicky Farm.  Weather was dry but the grass was a bit dewy in places.

A Hare was seen along White Fen Drove

Sunday 20 May 2012

Wimpole 10k this morning at Wimpole Hall (National Trust).  Weather was quite cold.  The course was a bit muddy in places especially on top of the hill at Cobb's Wood.  A tough hilly course with a steep climb between 1 and 2 km.  A pleasant route then either along the edge of or through woodland to the 7km mark,  The course then opened out onto the parkland starting with a steep grassy downhill section.  At 9km the finish was sight but the route teasingly veered away along the avenue (which used to be bordered with elms before dutch elm disease struck several years ago).  I had energy left for a final sprint to the finish for a time of 47'14" and 48th place out of 440 runners.

Wednesday 16 May 2012

Wednesday 16 May 2012

I ran the 8-mile Horningsea route this morning.  Normally I run this anti-clockwise but did it the other way round today.  On the way back came through Quy Fen rather than past Allicky Farm.  Rather cold this morning, but not too muddy.  Time was 1 hour 08'09".

A Fox was seen along the Honey Hill byway.  A few Whitethroats seen or heard.  Reed Warblers were heard in the reeds at Quy Fen.

Sunday 13 May 2012

A trip to Brandon Country Park today.  Weather was dry and it was quite warm at times.  I basically ran the blue cycle route with a few little additions. Total distance was about 7 miles.  Finished off with kettlebelling and boxercise in the orchard picnic area.

A Green Woodpecker was seen and a few Chiffchaffs heard.

Saturday 12 May

A good parkrun this morning.  The course was still a little muddy in places, but not too bad.  A respectable time of 22'03".

A few Chiffchaffs heard and a Buzzard was soaring over at the finish.

Friday 11 May 2012

Tuesday 8 May 2012

A bright evening after all the recent rain, so I went out for a run as soon as I got home.  I set off for Wilbraham Fen, with no set route in mind.  After running down the main central path I crossed the wheat fields along the footpath near the windmill and came back to the start along Little Wilbraham River.  I then headed back down the central path and returned to Quy via the Six-Mile Bottom road.  A total distance of 9.2 miles.

A Buzzard flew up close along the hedgerow in d'Engaynes as I arrived.  In the main fen were Reed and Sedge Warblers, Reed Buntings, 2 Cuckoos and a Short-Eared Owl.  Whitethroats, Chiffchaffs, Willow Warblers and Yellowhammers were seen or heard too.

When I got back to Quy there was a Hare on the cricket pitch.

Saturday 5 May 2012

Fen Drayton Lakes 10k.  A revised route due to flooding, however a part of the course alongside the guided busway was flooded.

I started well but was out of energy by 3k.  This is after a kettlebell class and a boxercise class in the week.  Having slowed down at this stage a number of runners came passed me, including the 50 minutesd pacer at around the 7K mark (but he was running ahead of that time).  A decent final 2k saw me finish up with a time of 48'03", well down on my planned sub-45 time.

Not much opportunity to spot many birds, but a few Swifts seen flying around.

Wednesday 2 May 2012

Wednesday 2 May 2012

A 10 mile run this morning to Oily Hall.  The weather was slightly drizzly at the start and fairly cool.  The ground was muddy in places, especially at the start of Anglesey Abbey woods and along the bridleway.  A reasonable time of 1 hour 29'20".

A few House Martins seen over Station Road and a couple of Swallows.  A Heron flew up from the river at the start of Quy Water.  2 Green Woodpeckers were seen at Lode Mill and another at Frolic Farm.  A Great-Spotted Woodpecker was seen along the track to the Lodestar fields.  A male Kestrel was here too.

A total of about 5 Roe Deer were seen this morning.

Monday 30 April 2012

Due to continued heavy rain in recent days I ran the mainly road route to Bottisham and Lode and back along the old railway track.  A fairly slow 47'33".

A couple of House Martins seen in Vicarage Meadow and some more in Lode.

A Collared Dove was seen nesting where a telegraph cable met the wall of a cottage in Lode.  I have seen the old nest there before, but this is the first time I've seen the bird on the nest.

Saturday 28 April 2012

Parkrun this morning.  Heavy rain before the start had eased off to a light drizzle by the time the run started.  The course was very muddy though, with large puddles.  Considering the conditions, my time of 22'22" was reasonable.

A few Chiffchaffs heard.

Friday 27 April 2012

Friday 27 April 2012

A run to Horningsea this morning.  Weather was dry and fine.  The ground was muddy in places after the heavy rain of the last few days, but fortunately the puddles were all avoidable.  A fairly slow run at 1 hour 09'49" for the 8 mile course.

3 Buzzards were seen, along the track to Allicky Farm along the byway before and after the pink house.  A Jay was also seen along the track to Allicky Farm and a Great-Spotted Woodpecker after the farm.  A Chiffchaff was heard in Station Road, Quy and a few Skylarks heard too.  2 Swallows were seen in Station Road and another 2 in Horningsea.

A Hare was on the track just before the bridge over the A14.

Monday 23 April 2012

Sunday 22 April 2012

I ran the Lode 10k route in a good time of 48'37".  I set a new PB to Lode Mill of 15'19".  Weather was dry and cool.

A Swan was on the riverbank at the start of Quy Water.  A Blackcap was heard at the start of Anglesey Abbey woods. 2 Bullfinches were seen in the bushes along Bottisham Lode.

A Green Woodpecker flew out from the trees along the track to the Lodestar fields and another was feeding on the grass towards Quy Fen.  2 Reed Buntings, 2 Skylarks and 2 Lapwings were seen in the field after Lodestar.  The Lapwing were seeing off a couple of Crows.

A Jay was seen along the old railway line.  A Swallow was seen over Bush Farm in Station Road.

A few Chiffchaffs heard.

A few Chiffchaffs heard.

Tuesday 17 April 2012

Tuesday 17 April 2012

A short run to Lode and back along the old railway line this morning.  It was raining quite hard at the start and with a strong cold wind it was quite unpleasant.  Fortunately the rain stopped by the time I got to the Lode Mill but wind was just as cold.

A Grey Wagtail was seen at Lode Mill and a pair of Grey Partridges along the old railway line.  A couple of Chiffchaffs heard.

Sunday 15 April 2012

Cambourne 10k.  Weather was dry and cool and quite windy.  A good run in a time of 45'09" finishing 130th out of 1001 runners (age graded position 103rd).

Quite crowded at the start, however I got off surprisingly quickly at 4'15" for the first km.  Reached 5k in 22'10. A second 5k in around 23 minutes was good going considering the head wind made the 7th km uphill rather hard work.

Friday 13 April 2012

An after work run today into Lode and back through Quy Fen.  Weather was dry.  A reasonable time of 47'29" for a distance of 5.7 miles.

Wednesday 11 April 2012

On returning to Station Road, one of the Swans was seen swimming along Quy Water.

The first mile was done in 7'13", the next mile which included the steep uphill section through the woods at the sand hills was 7'48".  I continued to do each mile in under 8 minutes.  The 8th and 9th miles are downhill, so I picked up some speed here.  Very tired for the last mile.

Saturday 17 March 2012

Cambridge parkrun this morning.  Heavy rain started just before the run, but this has eased to a light drizzle by the start.  The course was therefore quite muddy.  A good time considering the conditions of 22'38".

Wednesday 14 March 2012

A cold and misty Lode 10k run this morning.  It was so misty across the Lodestar fields that I missed the bridge over the small ditch by about 50m and had to back-track along the ditch.  A slow time of 55'50".

Not much to see this morning obviously, but I did see a Kingfisher at the pond in Station Road.

A run to the end of White Fen Drove this morning, in 1 hour 7'21".

Friday 24 February 2012

I decided to start running the Lode 10k route again this morning, now that it's light well before 7.  Weather was fairly mild.  The course was a bit muddy in places, especially along Quy Water through the woods at Anglesey Abbey.  My time was reasonable for the time of year, although well down on my PB, at 54'12".

A Green Woodpecker was heard at the horse field. The Swan family were on Quy Water.  Just before Anglesey Abbey I saw a Heron and another one along Bottisham Lode.  A Jay was seen at Lode Mill and another along the old railway line.

5 Moorhens were seen along Quy Water up to the Mill and another 3 along Bottisham Lode.  A Wren was heard singing along Quy Water.  A Great-Spotted Woodpecker was heard drumming in a house garden in Lode.  A Song Thrush was singing in the trees opposite the cottages on Fen Road. A pair of Kestrels were seen near the Jack of Clubs farm.

A Buzzard was flying over the Lodestar fields and a Reed Bunting was in the usual ditch between the 2 fields.  3-4 Skylarks were seen here and another 5-6 along the old railway line and bridleway.  One of the Skylarks was singing high above the field clearly displaying.

Saturday 18 February 2012

Cambridge parkrun this morning.  Weather much warmer this week.  I'm starting to get a cold so didn't expect a good time.  It was my legs that were the limiting factor though, as they got very tired after the first 3km.  Finished in a time of 23'01", my best at Milton this year, but still well done on my PB.

Thursday 16 February 2012

Thursday 16 February 2012

A Muntjac was seen in the fields at the far end of Bottisham.
